That sucks Shag! I had one of those chrome alternators bad out of the box recently. Totally sucked, replaced it and all is good now. Just seems like those are hit and miss.

BTW my turbo I got from you has been nothing but awesome!!! Thanks for the great product.

Glad Zander! What times you running now?

Yea the alternator went out. Regulator fried. Just rebuilt it. It's going back together now. Put on a regular bulb and going to try a interstate battery.

That is how I roll, but mostly because the shop has an Interstate account.
I still have to believe that something else is wrong to have this many problems in a row. You need a line mechanic friend with a volt meter lol. I hate to bring up the swapped 3/4 coil wiring because of the coil labeling... okay that was a low blow. I really hope you get it dialed. Now post those pictures.

Best to date is a 12.1 @ 113. Done a lot of changes, running e-85 now. I know its got an 11 in it, just need to break it out and go racing! Been building a bus for the family. Speaking of bus.....do you make a turbo header to accommodate the rear engine bar on an early bay?

I have a volt meter. Just don't know how to check amperage draw.

You need a multi meter with an Amp setting. What kind of meter do you have?

Will check tonight. I will probably just get her back together and take it down to the auto electric shop to test it.

So close to the first start up on my 8 year build I could almost taste it. All systems primed and cranked to check initial timing....no spark. My overpriced MSD distributor came with a bad pickup coil :(.

Tonight it shall be a runner!!!

Ya, just a little burnt out. After pushing so hard to get this thing going, and finding problems with almost every system as they come to life, confidence is a distant memory. I'll be lucky if I don't pass out during the cam break-in :|

Good luck Karl!
I on the other hand am going to burn my car if I can't find out why I'm having alternator problems. I put a regular bulb, a new interstate battery and rebuilt the alternator. 1st start up went good. Light went out. Charged at 14v and seemed fine. After turning off and restarting I had to rev it to get light to go out. Next time it got worce. Damn! What is going on here.
Took it to alternator shop and he said my wire must be bad. He said it should read 5-7 volts WHAT! I tested two stock bugs and both there wires read 11.7v and 11.6v and mine is the same. Why is my alternator not getting excited?
