Help for a Rajay turbo kit

Hi everyone,

I just bought a Rajay kit for a 1600 engine. It seems quite complete, but I have questions for the carburator and ignition.

Is someone able to help me, I need pictures of such a kit mounted on an original engine. I would also appreciate to know if I need to make some mods on the stock carb (is it suppose to be a 34 pict3?) and ignition. Do I need to limit advance, and where? Does someone know where the oil used to return on this kit?

I first thought of updating the kit, but it looks quite nice, so I'm thinking of bolting it on my daily driver.

Can someone confirm if this is the part that bolts where the original carburetor was?



Oil pickup for the turbo is at a custom oil pump cover including an oil filter.

Couple things:

Nice kit, looks like it has most of the parts.

The boost gauge looks broken, needle is pointing down when it should be at 0.

I can upgrade the turbo for you to an FB25, which will make the compressor more efficient and provide more boost pressure. Let me know if you're interested.

For ignition you could run a limited/locked distributor, an unlocked distributor with something like an MSD 6BTM retard box, or move up to distributorless crank fired with Megajolt/EDIS. The Megajolt/EDIS can be done for about the same money (or less) than the 6BTM, but the bennie is Megajolt is programmable. I suggest Megajolt; I've done it to 2 different turbo cars so far, and the results have been very good. Do a search for Corvair distributorless ignition, you'll find a page I wrote on how to do it.

I didn't found the thread aboud corvair distributorless ign, but as I live in Switzerland, corvair parts are more difficult to find than rajay kits

I'ld like to keep the engine simple, so I would tend to reproduce what was done when the kit was sold. Do you think the carburetor needs some updates? I read somewhere right here that Rajay was updating the main jet and blocking somethin somewhere, anyone has infos?
I guess I could simply use a AFR gauge to be sure I'm in the good range, and try to fix problems.

Any hints to limit the distributor? What should I do, only block the internal advance?

Let me know. Since you are Swiss, i'd rather just mail you the parts vice doing a conversion for you. It would be much cheaper on postage, since the turbo is heavy while the upgrde parts are light. I can include instructions from the manual, so you know how to do it.

It uses Ford parts that can be found in your own country, here's a list of cars the parts can be found in:

It will work much better with a 'proper' ignition, but a locked distrubutor will 'get the job done'.

I know that aluminum turbo intake is from a Saab. Why is in the kit?

the carb is directly bolted on the Rajay intake manifold. there is also some "linkage" here.
