Hopefully the high boost you run won't blow the ends off that IC. I've heard of similar coolers having that issue.

So just an air to air intercooler clone?

I found a nice /cheap fan for my oil cooler at jegs.
fyi: my 4 puck acts like a stock clutch because of the sprung center  does chatter once in a while in reverse    nothing I can't live with

Looking good CB! Looks like it has potential.
Consider "oversizing" the fan - the smaller fans just don't push/pull too many CFMs. Some angle aluminum can be fitted to block any slight overhangs. Here's where I got my IC fan - these seem to flow pretty well for the size/$$ and are reversible: http://www.maradynehp.com/champion-series.html
I think I ordered it through Amazon.

Might also want to try some yarn airflow testing on top of the core to see which way the air is wanting to naturally go at speed before fitting the fan - and please share what you learn!

Mandrel-bends is a good source for tube bends - I've used them too - but they tend to have tooling marks. For "flawless" polished bends, check out Treadstone:

The Treadstone bends are super nice - the flip side is you almost don't want to cut 'em up and/or scratch the beautiful finish!

Thanks GS!!!

Good info on the fans...I had looked at some a year or so ago but now couldn't find them back.....I'll probably wire it in this winter but test without a fan first and see if I can get by without.

Soooo.....How does your Wife like the chatter in reverse????? :|

Mine has to be smooth or I'll get an earful every time she rides with me...........

I'd log the intake temps before I put a fan on it. I'd only use one if there was no other way to get air into it. The fan will obscure a lot of the core when it's not working. A small scoop will work better.

What were your highest intake temps and at what boost level???

I'm out of Relay board outputs I think...... or at least connections for outputs. I'll have to trigger it off the Hobbs switch through a relay and timer possibly.

I'm sure Mario can find you another output or 2!
After lots of research and head scratching, I decided to use MAP to drive the fan on my (as yet un-tested) set up. I figure I'll need the IC airflow once the pressure is above 5-6 lbs of boost, with a hysteresis setting to keep the fan running a little while after the boost drops back down. I'll have to re-purpose one of the LED outputs to run it as I'm out of outputs too. Your Hobbs switch plan should work similar. My situation is a little different as my IC is completely covered by bodywork (engine cover), with some kind of openings/louvers added in the cover to get some cool air. To combat IC heat soak, I'll have a 2nd fan stage wired outside the computer connected to a thermostatic switch, so once the physical IC temp reaches somewhere over 100F, it'll kick on the fan at a lower speed setting - only kicking up to full speed under boost. Sounds good in theory???

Frozenboost.com also has a selection of fans worth looking at.

We can get a couple more but I have no more connections on my Relay board.

Image

There are 4 point on the board that we could tie into but I think I can easily run the fan off the Hobbs and not have to run more wires all the way from the front since I have a power supply point in the back that is easy to get at.
I also have one spare wire in the harness that does go to the back terminal strip that could be hooked to but I would have to pull the body to reach that and run a wire.

Image

The Hobbs is just a foot or two away and so is the power supply.
The top right wire on the terminal strip is a power source for the W/I solenoids and the Boost solenoid so I can easily get power for the fan since there is just one more screw available......

You just wait........

My hood comes off with two bolts in less than a minute.......I am sooo glad the previous owner cut the dash off and I had to come up a with a solution to support the hood.
It works great and gives me complete access to the whole area......

You have a lot of planning to do to get everything to fit.  8)

If you plan on a lot of boost you have even more stuff to fit....... :D
