... I can hear the wallets screaming in fear already.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Sounds to me like its time to buy a few tools and a couple books and learn how to save yourself a few bucks.petew wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2018 4:27 pmYeah, but that's not going to last forever. Even over here where they sold HEAPs of VW, good stock motors are starting to be hard to come by. In most cases you need to rebuild them and that's not a cheap proposition these days. Mine cost me $3.5k for an almost stock rebuild.

You'd think so right? But most of the cost was machining. He only charged me $800 to assemble it. Can't see myself buying an align bore and milling machine anytime soon.Chip Birks wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2018 8:32 pm Sounds to me like its time to buy a few tools and a couple books and learn how to save yourself a few bucks.

Re: Safari Turbo/Megasquirt Fuel Injection Project
Totally. I've already had an NA subaru in a VW and loved it. If my car wasn't so straight and original it would have got an EJ. Heck, even an EJ22 with a turbo would be pretty grouse.turboedbug wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2018 5:36 pm Since talking about losing a stroker motor vs a stocker. I kinda like the subaru thing. But hey thats just me. Already fuel injected, comes with a turbo. So if i blow my current setup i could go out and spend less than rebuilding. Now dont get me wrong on sounding like i am hating on acvw. I am just a cheap azz that found the pros and cons worth the swap. I snagged my motor and trans for just under 700$. Now thats not usually common at that price.

Dang! I think I'm into my machine work around $300-400. That's just the case itself, but, includes stroker clearance, shuffle pin on center web, and bore/deck.petew wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2018 8:54 pmYou'd think so right? But most of the cost was machining. That has to be a tough call when you can buy a new case ready to go for $900 at CB.

Re: Safari Turbo/Megasquirt Fuel Injection Project
I’m talking about someone that is trying to get 200 hp out of a 2276-2332 and has it built.
Match porting heads and intakes, big 48 idf carbs rebuilt by Blackline Racing, extractor exhaust, balancing the entire works to spin it to 7500 rpm.
You are turbo so you don’t care if it only puts out 120-140 hp N/A.

Yeah I see plenty of guys building 2275-2332 that are making sub 200hp NA on the dyno. And they are high strung and surely not great for the street.

Turbo - the great equalizer! F1 used to get 1000hp from 1.6L, just kept adding boost! (well, plus a few other tricks...) You still have a ways to go CB!

Re: Safari Turbo/Megasquirt Fuel Injection Project
IIRC it was more like 1 hp/cc in qualifying trim. (1500 hp/1.5L)
Almost top fuel level, per cc, and not for just a few seconds per rebuild. Usually.

I'll give a dollar to the first guy on this forum who welds his barrels into his heads.
