Killer Swing Axle Bajas and Buggys Thread

Just for fun because we get hung up sometimes in the long travel, coilover, latest and greatest world of 930CV's with chromalloy cages & microstubs....Lets do it old school and show guys that fin can be had in an old Swing Axle car.

Speaking of swing axle, the red one here having proble,S is one. Titis/was a good running Baja that I really liked.

these videos make me want to get some wheels with more offset get the track width wider and help with some rubbing.

My car is set up with all type-3 rear axles. 68ish I think. Long axles wider brake shoes ect. The 31's still kiss the inner fenderwell some

Outstanding thread, sometimes we donget wrapped around the axle so to speak and forget about some of the roots of Off Road rides. Lots of swing axles where tearing it up in the Baja 500,1000 for that matter still are.

This is my 58 Baja when it was swingaxle and bug-eyed. 1979 or 1980. At Sageland, an old ghost town in Kelso Canyon very near the west end of Dove Springs Road. 1385cc (1200 with 83mm cylinders) with a whole 28mm Solex carb. About this time I switched the shocks from Sears (Gabriel) heavy duty lifetime warranty (suckers! ) to KYB Gas-A-Just. Long spline long axles at the rear, original 58 rear torsions re-indexed. Stock original front except shocks.


This is my 65 Baja climbing Sherman Jeep Trail in the Sierras 1976. 1835 with Weber 40DCNF, race built swingaxle. My buddy Vic who took the pic with my camera had failed to make this stretch of the trail a couple of weeks before with his flat fender jeep with a V6.


Same story as above. Went back down and climbed it again to prove making this section wasn't a fluke.


Proof that we made it. Summit of Sherman Jeep Trail.


'58 Baja again. North-west of Jawbone Canyon. Trail washed out by summer flash floods. Sides of trail collapsed under front wheels. Doors pinned shut by sides. Friend exiting the car. Got it going again in a couple minutes.


'58 in Lockwood Creek Canyon. My girl friend took these pics because she was afraid we would get stuck so she wanted to walk this section.




The 'ol '58 again. It made it over Sherman Jeep Trail too. We are stopped while Vic is working on something on his jeep.
