Manx build

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Lee,

Again, thanks for all of the great information!
The long game is to probably to go to a 6" wider beam and at least 3x3 arms with coilovers all of the way around. I am going to see how it rides and handles like this so far then make adjustments as you suggested to get it where I want it until the upgrades get handled... I am very curious what the weight difference is going to be!

 Weigh stations are usually close by so each time you make a change... An interesting question to say the least. Un-sprung weight vs. sprung weight is another one.

My opinion is worth slightly less than what you paid for it.

I am in the racing industry and have a couple teams here nearby that I help, I can probably get all of the numbers. Should be a very fun project!

I wish I had known; I would have cut my answers in half. I try to answer to the writer and to the lurkers so that is why the detail. My job for many years and the habit hasn't been broken in the16 years of retirement. I should have guess by what the pix showed. :)

Lee,
Please keep up with the information, I am always trying to learn and have a lot more to learn from you guys. I have a piston company and have done everything from F1 to the Baja 1000. That being said this is my first vw and I hope I never come across as a know it all!

Don't do that! Everything I have learned has been from guys like you! Keep giving out the information please, working with your hands and building things is dying... I am hoping with this project I can try to get my kids a little interested and teach them how to use some tools.

No... Too much upkeep! I gotta admit it does match the body and pan in quality.
