one or two wraps of masking tape and all is good.

Right - forum update time.
I received an updated measurement photo :
This now gave me lots of dimensions to check and cross-check.
Since I already have the 4 x VW stud locations in my models, this gave me some good reference and starting points.
In order to get the location of the bolt holes, you need to make circles for each dimension given (adjusted so they are center to center dimensions). Wherever the circles cross over each other is the location for the next hole. It's like triangulating a location based on two or three other known distances. Here's how all those circles and holes look :
Pretty confusing huh.
Here's how it looks in drawing form with the construction circles invisible :
Our measurer is now going to print out the drawing, cut out the circles and lay it over the adaptor plate. Once we confirm (or adjust) that everything is in the correct location, we can lay the Subaru pattern over the top of it.

You sure make that look easy!
Thanx for taking the time to do it.

We do but we I would think that a Transfer Punch would be the more accurate and correct tool to use. I guess you could call them a center punch as they do have a punch in the center but that would be confusing as the roll of a transfer punch is to mark the center of a given diameter hole and using one without an actual guide hole is a PITA and usually inaccurate as you can't see the center punch part.fl_buggy wrote:Imagine if you will, a world where we have a punch that has an OD of 12mm and then a small point on one end in which to mark the material.ttriebler wrote:
I still fail to see how you could accurately put a needle-point center punch stamp in the middle of a 12mm dia hole and then expect to get the pattern perfect. I know I can't judge the center of a 12mm hole by eye and punch it exactly in the center.
I know Australia is a bit behind the times, but I figured you guys would have center punches by now.

What we are doing is sending him the Template for it. We have taken measurements and some are off so I am just going to mail a template to Todd, that way we have exact holes and placement. May take longer but should be more exact.

Paper? Postal mail? Is that stuff still around?
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

Re: Honda V6 with Subaru transmission
I wanted him to scan the template and email it but that was too high tech.
We are going ole skoool, snail mail
When it arrives, I'll do an update.

Great reading and getting educated. I still need a car to put this kind of stuff in.............
But I have a small bank roll to spend on one.

Still working on this. I scanned a template, sent it to ttriebler, he sends me a drawing which should be the exact size but two later we are still off. I copied the template several ways and just sent that to myself to reprint, it is off so something in the print is putting it off. Like I said still working on it, haven't given up.

Re: Honda V6 with Subaru transmission
Any updates? Thinking of doing a subie transmission swap this summer. My 3.0 likes to beat up on the VW bus box in my buggy like it owes him money. Totally not my fault
