560 Gets a major remodel
Mike sent me some pics of the infamous 560 when we were discussing the purchase of the car, so I thought I'd post them here for all to see. Since there is a lot of pics I just posted the photobucket link. The first two pics are some lower A arms that Dave Brown made for him for a future project.

Re: 560 Exposed
Here are a couple more pics. 1st is the car loaded on the trailer getting ready for the trip to Utah. 2nd is Mike and his wife Shelley saying goodbye to the car. A few minutes later we pulled out of the driveway and began the long trip back to Utah. Yep, 560 now lives in Utah Mike got the car 17 years ago and has been working on it ever since.I first saw the car in person not long after he got it. This is an old school Class 5 car that competed in the 1977 Baja 1000. Still has the tag on the dash from the race! Mike has done an excellent job of putting the car back together. I can't wait to drive it.

That is such a great and historic race car. I look forward to see it in action in July. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Yep, little black mazda PU on the left of the photo. Got it cheap, neighbors needed to sell it. And 14 MPG and the price of diesel in my Ford, mazda will pay for itself in about a year. That of course not including the suspension additions.CentralWAbaja wrote:Congratulations to you both.

You could bring it up to the Car show next Weekend in Bountiful. We could use another offroad car.

We are doing the Salt Air Afare at Black line Racing on Saturday. Breakfast and a cruise to a local park for a small show and shine. If not, we would be there.

Re: 560 Goes to Utah
We went out to 5 mile Pass today for the cars maiden voyage. Tim came down from Idaho and Kyle from Park City. All I can say is WOW. Not what I was expecting at all. First off the engine is a 2165 lo-compression torque monster with CIS mechanical fuel injection adapted to the VW air cooled engine by Miller fuel injection who sadly is no longer in business. This system rocks! There was not a stutter, hesitation, hiccup or anything else all day. The engine could be lugged down and it would just pull, no hesitation, it just pulled. Awesome torque and sounded mean as hell too.
When I first got in the car I was not liking the steering wheel placement at all. It was high and fairly close to me. After a while though I came to really like it.
I was really curious how the car would handle, especially with the yellow bisteins on all 4 corners. 3 on each side in the back and 2 on each side up front. 10 in all. I wasn't expecting much to be honest. I figured I'd be replacing them soon. Well, I was wrong. Way wrong. They soaked up everything we threw at it. We did 80 miles today thru about every kind of terrain imaginable. I was amazed! Kyle and I would see something nasty coming and the car would just soak it up. Not what I expected at all. The car is very easy to drive, and before you know it you are moving at a good clip. We started out in the morning and I told Kyle I wasn't going to be going fast as I wanted to get used to the car. Not too many miles later we were moving at a really good clip when we blew a sharp left hander. I was on the brakes hard, the car was getting a bit tippy and I thought it might go over so I got off the brakes and steered out of it. I told Kyle that video would be interesting to watch. He said nope, I didn't have the camera on, you said you were going tro go slow
All in all it was an excellent day and the car is way beyond my expectations. Mike(560) did one hell of a job building it. Thanks Mike
Kyle and Tim should be posting video later
