Ah, I understand now. Not what I thought you were talking about.

With all the tall trees around where we were we didn't think we would be able to see the eclipse but as the fog lifted the arc was above the trees as long as you sat in a certain place.

From what I have read there are now going to be litigation over some of those supposedly safe glasses.

I heard using one being talked about Dusty.

My eye vets are not too happy with my welding either so I don't mention it to them. As I said, too many major eye operations.

Just got some good news... our motorhome just sold so the long drives(1800+ miles each way) are now gone.

BTDT with cheap helmet, you will get sandy eyes soon using cheap glass.
You cannot buy too good of a helmet.

I picked up a great helmet from USAWELD/HTP , here's the newer version for the same price, sounds awesome.
With the old one I can weld at night with the flame of a candle, doing DC TIG at 3A...Autodarkening worked just fine..

http://www.usaweld.com/Striker-XXL-Weld ... 31-xxl.htm

I considered picking up a std Miller helmet/headgear and swapping the fast glass over, but the USAWELD headgear works just fine.
Dont forget to attach a Tillman bib to it.

One thing I really dislike about battery powered welding helmets is the potential to have a battery go dead or even just momentarily make poor contact, and then you get flashed. I have a cheap ass helmet (not really, I've seen my helmet on sale for 2x what that USAWELD helmet is offered for in the link...I just got mine at a really good bargain) that is "solar" powered. Powered by the light of the welding arc. It has no batteries to go dead. The only time I EVER flashed my eyes with it was when I had a roll cage bar between the weld arc and the sensor panel on the helmet. That will cause a battery powered helmet to not switch also. Several times guys I worked with flashed their eyes because of a bad battery in their helmet. So I'm pretty happy with mine. Sunlight reflected off my concrete driveway will switch my helmet.

Got to the dunes about noon today. Heard some rigs out there but the engine noises sounded like the sand is very heavy from all the rain lately. It rained a good part of the way down until we got over the coastal mountain range.

If I sound kind of rheumy I cane down with a cold on the way down, so bad that I had my wife drive a good part of the 8 hour trip. If it is the one going around it is supposed to be very hard one so take care and wipe the handles from shopping carts and anything else you touch. I had my flu shot yesterday so be prepared and get yours. A bad seasons for this stuff is expected.

The weather has been not too bad here. Fairly cool in the AM then warming up in the afternoon only to cool back down in the evening (say 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM). Right now high thin clouds in a lite blue sky with an off and on light wind to give some movement to the trees.

My wife and youngest stepson stopped by the Riley Ranch camping area w/dune access on the way back home from buying some necessaries. From what they sided it was fairly busy there. A very nice... but expensive campground owned I think by the state... mid $30 per. It is the newest dune camping area (I think) in the southern dune area.

Heard some riders this am, the same as yesterday then quiet the rest of the time.

Been too sick to do much of anything so luckily the stepson showed up and did most of the work for me. I still have a bit of work to do tomorrow and a tool to try to repair then back home. Having well troubles also which is another bother!

The only good part of this trip is that the stock in facial tissues probably when up while some trees went down to cover what ever I have   .

(Update) I forgot to tell you not to touch your screen and mouse for a couple of days so you don't catch what I have.

The sun is out, high clouds with a pinkish tint to them. 49° degrees this am but 54° right now (9:26 PST). A mild breeze out of the north where we are.

There is a some kind of cold (?) or virus that is going around; at least here in the west coast area. My youngest stepson who works as a Cardiac Nurse in a large hospital in Bend Oregon had what sounds like the same thing a couple of weeks ago and is still suffering with some of the symptoms like sore throat and nasal drainage.

I came down with what seems to be the same thing on Thursday on the way down to the dunes. I couldn't sleep the previous night: after getting a bit over 50 miles down I-5 I had to quit driving and let the wife get to the southern end of Portland; I did get some sleep. I got to the Coos Bay/North Bend area and that night I got the full effect of it.

Not only very bad joint, skin, muscle pain but a heavy, heavy cold with a heavy running nose (measured on boxes of tissue, coughing, hacking and not being able to breathe. Last night my lower back was so sore I couldn't sleep nor could I climb steps without my legs and arms not being able to support any weight of lift my bod up to go to the next step add to that I couldn't sleep at all because of lower back pain and constant runny nose.

Finally, about 10:00 AM today the symptoms started to suddenly clear up but it is still very painful to sit for any length of time without back support. The runny nose and throat thing is still there but not as bad as it was.

Be very, very careful what you touch and be very clean if you touch something like shopping carts or anything anyone else may have touched that someone else may have touched also. I think is going to spread hard and fast so be careful.

This is something you do not want to mess with... it is really nasty!

Yesterday was a nice warm day... what little I got to see of it anyway. Not much wind.

Today has started by having a clear blue sky with minimal wind. Tomorrow is supposed to get up into the 80°s. The rest of the week is supposed to be sunny and into the mid to high 60°.

Very warm today, not sure of temp but in the afternoon after it started to cool down I went out short sleeved and it was very comfortable, maybe a slight warm feel.

Blue sky with high fluffy clouds and almost no wind.

Very quiet on the dunes.

Heading home today after a well guy comes to look at ours.

Currently the sky is blue, no clouds and almost no wind.

From talking to one of the locals this flu/cold is rampant down here. three weeks to a month with the symptoms is not unusual so be prepared esp. for a still sore back.

Back at the dunes for a couple of days as we have a meeting to attend.

The weather on the coast (from Reedsport to North Bend/Coos Bay) was sunny by ~11:00 am. The drive down was cold with the temperatures ranging from 28° to 39° with the most common temperature being around 35°. The Willamette Valley being pretty much socked in by fog ranging from light to where is the road! 'we didn't see the sun until we were at the bottom of the hill and ready for the exit to Drain. Tomorrow is supposed to be something like today's weather.

Coming into Reedsport one of the herds of elk were laying in the grass about 50 yards away from the road. It was too busy to stop and take pictures.

The road from Drain to Reedsport is being worked on again. Part of it was clearing trees back from the highway. There are now three bridges being rebuilt so they are working on one side at a time which means they stop traffic in one direction to let the other direction pass then reverse it so be ready for the time sitting in line; it isn't that long unless you are in a hurry!
