Sounds like you have a pretty good chance of needing your passport.

For those not in the know, they lost another transaxle at Vernal. Boo.

Teardown is tonight, think it may be just an axle.

I got the transmission separated today if you need it.

Re: 936 a reBUILD thread
now i know who to call the next time i need some Jag parts.
years ago {early 90's i think) my wife and i drove 1.5 hrs to look at a jaguar that we saw in the local car trader mag. of course it looked like it was in mint condition. one we got there we discovered it was on a flat, interior was quite worn and duct tape was holding the gas lid down. while the salesman went for an air tank so we could go for a test drive my wife and i looked at each other and drove off the lot. we still joke about that day!
there are a few new ones in town, but they have to go to OKC for service, 166 miles one way. awesome luxury automobiles.

Re: 936 a reBUILD thread
Shorty broke the right axle, broke at the spade on the trans side, right where they all break. We do have to pull the trans and send it back to our builder for some adjustments because the boys said it wants to jump out of gear when you let off the gas. My builder has the parts we need to put it back together and I still have a couple of axels and he will check to make sure they are not bent. If they are not good Tim has a complete trans for me that I can get a good axle out of.
Tim,I will let you know when I can come get the trans. If I don't need any parts from it I may just have you bring it to the Jackpot race.

Re: 936 a reBUILD thread
The trick that worked best to stop (or greatly reduce) breaking axles in my Hi Jumper many years ago was to polish the spade and about 1/2 the shank.

Re: 936 a reBUILD thread
We have only broken 4 axles in 21 years, and bent a couple. So not to bad. I should go ahead and polish the ones I have, can't heart.

Re: 936 a reBUILD thread
Best done with a crankshaft polisher. It's like a lathe to hold and rotate the axle, with a belt sander and a polishing wheel on arms instead of cutting tools.
