Central WA Baja

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Same snouts as Warren is planning to put on his Ranger. Same as a Bronco.

Early planning and measuring gave way to me just saying the heck with it, I will deal with whatever I end up with. I really really wanted to keep the front fenders in tact and really was hoping to not even have to cut holes to clearance the shock towers. ( just a looks thing for me) once things started coming together I decided I was not going to sacrifice geometry of the front suspension to keep the fenders.

I cut the old beam off and replaced it with a much beefier one. I raised the beam up a couple inches and installed 3" raised spindles. This all changed location of the top of my shock hoops. I now cycle a clean 15-1/2" travel up front using the same 10" shock combo. Depending on my final spring setting up front the ride height will be the same or just slightly raised, maybe an inch (All part of my goal here)

I have widened the beam from a +6 to a +8 and switched to 35" tires. And right now it looks as though I get to keep my fenders....which makes me smile :D

Well my personal goal after I tore into the car to do the upgrades was to drive it before the 1 year anniversary of getting hurt in the car.

I didn't make that goal as that day was today. But The Queen and I are still in counseling and working on our relationship lol

Looks great CWB and I am glad you didn't have to cut the finders too. Mine is working good and did well at Knolls last weekend.

Looks good to me. Nice work. Will it maybe be at Rage?

Those tires are what are the norm for Class 5-Open Baja bug racers these days Pete. Those now are very much like DArren's Bug with full fiberglass bodies, 105" max wheelbase, 2.5l engines. Class 12 buggies also with VW T1 engines up to 2l, longer wheelbase, VW style front beams too and also Class 10 buggies which are like Darren's Baja without the Bug body shell, with longer wheelbase, a-arm front suspension and with a 2.5l engine. They are generally used all around on 15 x 4" wide rims.
