Like the 2" wide foam tape sold to seal a canopy to a pickup bed. That's what I used, just happen to have had some leftovers from my pick up canopy.

I stuck it to the fender flange and trimmed off the excess.

James, what I did was went to my local camping trailer supply store and got a roll of window/roof vent tape. It comes in a roll of 1 1/2"or 2" . I use the 1 1/2" version. I've uesd this same roll on 3 sets of type front fenders now and its the closest thing to the original stuff that vw uses that I've been able to find. I hope this helps you out.

What is D-19 sealing tape?

I'm getting ready to bolt the fenders and quarters back onto my '68 Fastback. The Bentley manual refers to "D-19 Sealing Tape" between the back of front fender (the bolts you access through the kick panel) and the inner structure. What is D-19 Sealing Tape, and what would the modern equivalent be? Am I looking a buying a roll of butyl tape?

Thanks,
Jimbo

Hello,

You are looking for a roll of selfadhesive mousse. Something like you use for windows.
