1970 Squareback Color Inquiry

Post by Steve from Common Gear »

I have a dark blue 1970 Squareback and was wondering if there is a resource to visit/look at that might possibly be able to tell me what my color's called, and also the VW "L" code for the color.

Thank you,
Steve

Hi' Steve.

There were following colours :

Aug. '69 - juli '70 ( 310 2000 001 - 310 2500 000 )

L50B - Diamond Blue
L630 - Cobalt Blue

Aug. '70 - juli '71 ( 311 2000 001 - 311 2500 000 )

L50D - Sapphire Blue
L54D - Marina Blue
L96E - Gemini Blue Metallic.

But you know it's hard to compare a colour on the screen with your car.
You sometimes need to have a sample card next to car to bee sure.

Regards

MchAlf.

Go to the color charts.

Yes, they are just for bugs and busses, but surprise! VW used the same colors on most of their cars.

The colors as they appear on your screen aren't usually very true to life. Find one that looks about right, and it usually is. If nothing else, it can get you paint codes.

Sure looks like Cobalt Blue (as opposed to Diamond Blue), per: http://www.hallvw.clara.net/vwpaint.htm

Thanks again for everyone's help & input!
