You might talk to Doug at the VolksRod Shop. ([email protected]) as he builds a kit that makes a type 1 beam a bolt on to a T3

Thanks for the response however that's not my intention. I'm lookin at going independent front suspension. My options are mustang 2, jaguar or go type 1 frame head and then have the bolt on options for the type 1.

Check out the T3 on the forums here with 911 front suspension!
Technically the front torsion beam suspension is independent already.

Yup seen that one. Great thread. Just im looking for something slightly more easier to do along and easier to get hold of the parts. I'm not frequenting the circles where early 911/912 suspension is easily circulating. £750 for the last one on UK Ebay. Besides. I do actually have the entire suspension of a porsche 987 which in theory could be done in the same way as early 911 suspension.

But for what it's worth no point in going full on custom with setting all the geometry when I can just graft in an already built and set up front end such as the eyeball, mendeola or red 9 front set up.

Get me?

Seen a notchback on the samba that had the mustang 2 front end, also type 3's with beetle frame heads fitted in aid of going for a narrowed front beam. Just can't find any info on them anymore.

Go check out our past builds. We did a notch back for Chad Schley. Grafted a super beetle pan head and a Mendeola Suspension.

I see, I didn't quite get where you were headed. If you go to thesamba.com and search Mustang II you will find quite a bit on M2 projects. Good luck with yours.

Can't post pictures directly. Too foolish to make the picture 800x800.

You can get a tubular Mustang 2 a-arm front snout several places...(meant for tube frame, but its cheap and a very good start)

http://www.jegs.com/p/Alston-Race-Cars/ ... 5/10002/-1

Even the factory crossbeam setup looks like it might be graftable on a modded T3 frame head---the "horns' are wide and sturdy enough to support it properly, whereas a T1 frame head might not be..

Looked at that and a reversed 914 front end myself before I tripped over a very, very low mile T3 front end in perfect shape for free.
The difference was unreal vs one with a worn bearing/arm, even one, and a zero slop steering box.

914s use very similar bits as early 911/912 and those parts can usually be had w/o the Porsche cost penalty.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Regarding my initial question it was regarding fitting a type 1 frame head and then going for one of the double wishbone set ups designed to bolt onto the type 1 frame head such as mendeola or eyeball.

It was never about keeping the beam suspension but thank you for your input.

I have previously bought a reconditioned type 3 beam for a substantial amount of money. Not more then 7 years later and virtually no mileage one of the bearings has failed and not to mention the fact that the car drives like crap. I'm stuck with +1.5 degrees camber. It's lowered so caster is non existent and the bump steer from through out the suspension travels varies around 19mm at both wheels. I have tried to get along with my old type 3 beam for many years but for me it just doesn't cut it any longer and doesn't offer me what I want. So it's all being chopped out and I'm having my own customish set up made up.
