in the car and it fits. it better fit! i used my own engine as the jig. :roll:

Purging the tubing ID right?
Otherwise you leave little dingleberries that can break off and kill turbos.

What did you use for a wheel in that 009 again?
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

purge? backup gas? what do you take me for! :lol: not bragging, but i designed weld fixtures/jigs for the aerospace industry off and on for 20 years or more (back into the high-speed hydraulic machine workholding design again).

the wheel in the 009 is a piece that i had cut at work on the laser. it was just something that i figured was a decent size and tooth count. it seems to work after i messed with it for a while and most importantly, your help. thank you by the way. :)

Ah, the nice welding makes sense, the comment was more a just-in-case as folks forget, should really back purge even with MIG unless you like dingleberries.

I have to practice a bit on a similar test piece to set the current and sort the welding speed or my welds look like the first example.

good point about the dingleberries (some call "sugaring") as a reminder. the purge gas (backup gas) really helps with penetration and having good weld flow.

i got the collector bits from Columbia River Mandrel Bending. I bought one of their stainless header kits (1.625) and then had a to buy a few more bends later. the flanges were made by a friend on a bridgeport.

so i was showing some guys at work some of my pictures and one asked me if i was on the vw forums. i said yes and he asked if i posted. i said i do some but i don't add much. he thought i would be a "hero". haha. naw, i told him there are so many guys miles above me. he talked me into it so tomorrow i will add some pictures to my junk pile.

Thin stuff like that is tough to fully weld unless it's clamped in a jig, it always wants to become a pretzel.
Even then its best to do a series of short, staggered welds, jumping around and letting it cool in between.

Not too bad with the synchro, will go down to 3A, but going easy I tend to get insufficient penetration.

OTOH a few good well placed "spot"welds are likely plenty strong enough if you have it well boxed.

Love the linkage BTW, I suspect it will work great.

Hey, I'm looking for TBs that will fit under the T3 engine cover and I found one of these throttle bodies (super cheap like you said!) but it looks like one piece, so I was wondering how you set up your linkage after cutting the thing in half?
