Can early exterior door handles be made to fit late car?

Notches, fastbacks, squarebacks.

Can early exterior door handles be made to fit late car?

Curious--- can the early handles be used on late doors (assuming not crazy mods?)

Late handles seem to be hard to get or in bad condition.
Early handles look much nicer IMHO and seem to be as common as fleas.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

i would think it could be done. being the doors are pretty much the same. I almost had to do that as well but finally found a early drivers door for my restore. I was thinking you might need the latch as well being the handle operates and locks a different way then the late handles

Follow up---
I ended up finding a clean late handle set on TOS, and swapped over the cylinders, all locks with one key again.

...But it IS getting early wrap around front turn signals, as the late ones are fugly.
