Rear disc conversion?

Post by astglenn »

I am getting ready to install some serious go into my type 3. I think I will get the whoa installed first. I have front discs that work really well. The existing rear drums seem to be pretty predictable. Let me add that the car is 67 swing, 4 lug.

My question is three fold.

1. How much brake can one put to these light cars without over braking the car.

2. Who makes a first class rear disc conversion?

3. Does an adjustable proportioning valve work well on the bias and is it even needed?

My Cobra had big Brembo's on it when I built it. Too much brake, even with CNC manual MC's I ended up installing less brake and it was much better.

I dont want to make the same mistake here.

Thanks

You didn't like the answers you got the Samba ?

Stock tires ? as stated prior - the stock brake system is pretty adequate for stock tires.

My first venture into discs was to put the CB Performance disc bake kit off my bug onto my 'notch.

Been running that with the stock MC and no prop valve.

Now I'm doing a Brembo conversion - staying with the stock MC and no prop valve. Running 195/50/16 front on 16x6 Boxters and 195/55/16 rear on the same rims.

Lanner did my setup - he did the Brembo setup for my bug back a few years ago also.

:P I found out fairly quickly (I am a newby) that there may be very different takes on a subject between The Samba and here.

If I may ask, who is lanner? That would be the second time I have seen the name. Sounds like a go to?
