Yes this was a very lucky find
I did a transmission for a friend`s Square back and they had some trouble setting the Gear lever after reasembly of all
Eventually took a drive out to them with the wive and to help set thing up then on the way home wive said I actually like that car shape. I always liked the Squaries and here was my chance to try and acoure one

Made a lot of calls in the next 2 days and found 4 candidates to go view ,As they are far and few I wasted no time

This was the last one I had a look at and the price and everything was RIGHT :D
And the aded bonus was the sun roof
I have only seen 2 with sunroofs Elvis and one in a junk yard my entire VW history

Trying to name Elvis we threw some names out and could not decide, then she said no matter what I am going to Rock and Roll in him
Then the Ideas started flowing ,Wive likes Elvis`s music and said she will Rock and roll in him
There and Then Elvis was Born

When I bought Elvis had a 2L Type 4 in I sold it and kept a 127 Type 4 1800 motor for The Project sieeng the 127 is brand new.
Luckily have all the side wide beadings that is more scares as Chicken teeth that will be repaired and all bumpers and chrome work will be re cromed

Dough Lyle has helped me a stack by organising the front ,Back and side back window rubbers with te chrome moulding in for Elvis

I was very lucky to retrieve all the mechanical spares for the Sunroof from the one that was in the Junk yard as the Gear and cables were all broken in Elvis`s sunroof

I am looking at maybe trying to get a set of 17" BRM rims for Elvis but still have to shop around to try and find a supplier who can ship to South Africa Any one got some leads for me

Well that is my Essay about Elvis
Will hopefully start assembling in the next vew months and collect some more parts

Pierre

Nice! What kind of manifolds and carbs did you use to fit under the lid?

Bradey bunch the Manifolds you can use the short 411 ones with std type 4 carbs and they will fit under the hood

Ok have been Quite some time since a last update

BIggest update is I managed to source all the bits and bobs I was short on for making the Sunroof opperational
and at the end of the day Perserverance paid off
I have cleaned all parts and lubed all trail fitted everything and what a beauty when the winder is turned and the roof glide open or closed

I have decided against going the 127 type 4 route with Elvis
I negotiated a 4 x 130 pcd Disc brake front end(Left hand drive so need to fit everything on to my Right hand drive front end)
with back drums 4 x 130
71 model twin leading master cylinder with reservoir
The original 4 stud steel rims
and a complete type 3 motor

So the plan is to rather keep the Squareback as close to as possible to original
The motor I have stripped and mains and B/e was std  what a shock as that is very rare in these times noadays
I will be taking the casing for alighn boring and clearancing to fit a 76mm 2.1 WBX crank in the type 1 block so the cc will stilll be close to 1800

Transmission wise I have built ONE OF MY "fREEWAY" FLYER BOXES
3.88r&p
WITH .88 FITTED IN TO 4TH so with nice torq motor and long er ratio transmission Elvis will be a nice croozing Vehicle

HEHEhehehe no it is not really a down grade will still build around a 1800 cc so will have enough power for casual croozing

The main reason why I am going type 3 is that we have a classic Marathon that takes place every year and they have brought the cut off year from 1960 to 1970 to get some younger blood in to the rally and the vehicle have to be original. And I dont want to go through the effort and finish Elvis and take him 100miles to the rally and some sob recognises the differance between a Type 3 motor and a Type 4

I will keep the Type 4 then for the 1963 split window bus that I am going to make look like a Feuerwhere (Fire bus) with upright fan conversion
