75 amp alternator

Post by shag55 »

Does anyony know where to get a 75 or better alternator for a t-3. I believe dss had a small 50amp. But don't know what it came off of. Has anyone has used one from a honda, toyota, ect. That is the right size maybe with a little modification to housing.

Toby told me too many years ago to remember where he got the 40amp, but I have no idea where they get that 70amp variation today.

Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

IIRC the 40-50A alts were originally for a Dihautsu (-10 spelling) or Toyota forkift. (It wouldn't surprise me to see a 70A version these days)

There is a "sure" way of fitting a 35, 70 or even 100+A alt, but it involves installing a T4 motor

One possible option on a T3 motor would be to run an external alt where the AC would have gone and a second electrical system for "high draw" accessories.

Alternators do not care which way they spin... (at least ones with new bearings) and knowing that makes a few more locations possible.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

a mid-late Mazda RX-7 70 amp will fit with little modification. Here is a pic of the one I just installed.

Clicked the wrong bookmark and dropped into this forum so...

My original 40A alternator is from a forklift. Nippendenso brand alternator. More here: http://www.aircoolednut.com/erkson/ttt/ ... tml#custom

I still have the same alternator and it's still working great!

why dont you just modify a bug alt to fit the spot all you have to do is turn it around and use the fan side the round end. and then cut the shaft off of the other end will fit in there with just a little mod of the tin. and you can get than in 55 to 95v amp sizes.
