oil ring collapse
just had 2.0L 1995 rebuilt, drove it 3000 miles, trouble i had is that it would go 1qt/100miles. took motor back to shop, they showed me that all the oil rings had collapsed. Any comments or suggestions that would cause such a problem

Were the pistons/cylinders replaced or were the originals cleaned/honed/reringed? If the latter, how much taper in the cylinders?
What style of oil ring? If 4-piece, were the expanders installed correctly, with their ends butted and not overlapping? Were the rings used the correct depth for the pistons? Were you given instructions on how to drive during break-in that included avoiding sustained operation at any steady speed, and did you follow them? Did the engine run especially hot?

I have seen it on cast iron single piece ones... bald in a few thousand miles, and have everything else look/check out perfect on a couple of occasions. (COFAP both times)
I try to only buy German rings... It's not worth the time or money to use the Brazilian/Mexican rings sometimes.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
