Tiny Hall Effect Sensor

Post by CBDZ »

In the pursuit to provide super clean installation of modern EFI & Ignition systems, there has been much discussion about trigger wheel sensors. While visiting with my dad today, he was showing of his latest RC plane with, I noticed this...

This sensor is about as big as a quarter, and super low profile. I don't know if it would work in high heat environments, or is the proper voltage. It did require a "flying magnet" which was mounted on the fly wheel, which is visible at about 2 o'clock. It has three wire connection, and based on some specs that I found on the ignition module, uses a 4-7 volt power supply.

Just thought I'd share.

Heres another example of an easy inexpensive setup, works with 5 volts 2 wire. Subaru rear tranny speed sensor.

There's a similar thread a few months ago, found one miniature gear tooth sensor (with rare earth magnet built in) that was ~5mmx8mmx8mm IIRC.

First hit on Google for "miniature gear tooth hall sensor"
http://www.allegromicro.com/Products/Ma ... TS616.aspx

It needs to be embedded in epoxy or such and wires added, but it's a complete unit.

It's under $5 in onesies.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
