Re: Project: 1776cc MS II V. 3.0 build...
Hi,
Last night a friend of mine paid me a visit and we started the car. It was way to rich, black, black, smoke rich.
The issue was the Petronix as I stated before. He bought me a set of points and installed it. The car fired right up.
Now I will start the tuning process.
I'll post progress as I play with the unit.
Thanks,

This afternoon a friend of mine came down to help me with the bug. We went for a ride around the hills and stopped at a mini market to get a beer. I put VEAL on the way there and it tuned okay for the distance. After a while, we turned on the car to leave and nothing. So we let it cool of and nothing. Apparently, the dizzy was loose and went off timing. A guy there started bla, bla, bla then he moved the dizzy and started right up.
I got home and put the timing light. Here is video:

Hi to all,
Finally I spoke with a friend that does machine work around my house to make the base for the EDIS. I will put it where the dizzy goes.
So, first should I risk taking out the spring and pinion or tell the guy to make the shaft extend to the spring. I was thinking of taking out the pinion but the two washers are my concern .
Second, what cables should I buy? I wanted to make them at a local speed shop that charges $10.00 per cable but since I do not know the specs I have not purchased them.
Lastly, I believe I read that the spark plug has to have a gap of .028. What brand /specs of the plug.
I purchased the material for the base on eBay, hopefully it will arrive tomorrow.
I'll post pics of the unit when done.
Thanks to all.

Use a distributor drive puller, most VW shops sell these. Sometimes they pop right out no problem, but a lot times you have to rotate the crank a bit and work the puller until the distributor drive comes out. Use an extension magnetic to fish the shims out.

Jade,
I have the dust. Tool and one of the magnetic extensions. What if I pull and the shims fall? Hell's going to break loose at home
That's what I want to avoid. But you won't know to you try so I'll it out. Maybe I'll take out the pump cover and put the mag. Extension.
Thanks.
About the cables and gaps, any news.

Re: Project: 1776cc MS II V. 3.0 build...
Good day,
This afternoon I got a call from the machine shop to pick up my EDIS mount.
I went ASAP and this is what I got:
Another angle:
Side view:
I just presented it since I have not wired or modded the MSII.
When I put the real pulley on (BMD) which I have stored I was thinking of putting the VR sensor on the EDIS mount somehow.
BTW
Can anyone tell me what kind of spark plug wires are needed, spark plugs, gap?
Angel

You will need the stock ford plug wire end on the coil side for sure. They have a clamp that holds on to the ridge of the coil.Volky wrote: BTW

I found a set of used wires off of a 1997 Ford F-150 V-8. It had the duel edis coils but did not use an Edis Module. The plug wires come in many lengths and I found four of the eight that were just the right length for my install.
Mario has the parts and tools to make the wires and can build them for you if you run stuck. I broke one of mine and had him shorten and install a new coil end on the one I sent him.
Here is a pic of the sparkplug end which is really nice to with the 90 degree angle.

Clonebug,
I have the wire ends from the ford. All four are from a escort and two are to short. I want them all the same.
About the spark plugs, which one do they use?

I'm using a stock plug number except in a resistor plug.
I ran into the same problem with the Escort wires......I was able to just get them to fit where I installed my coil but one was pretty tight......
The Ford F-150 has wires from 20 inches long all the way to 48 inches long and You get eight of them.

You also need, unless you had aftermarket spark plugs and plug wires beforehand, spark plugs with the cap on the end. Original VW wires had the circlip in the end that would make the clicking sound as you push it over the threaded plug end. Fords plug wires need the thread on cap. Most NGKs have these nowadays when you buy them new.

Re: Project: 1776cc MS II V. 3.0 build...
Hi to all,
I took the plunge and wired the MS-II for direct coil. I will be using a Ford EDIS coil and Mario's hideaway kit even tho I had the VR sensor, wheel, etc., but since I an using the BMD serpentine pulley I thought it would look better with everything behind the wheel.
So, I sent Mario the pulley to be setup for the wheel. Hopefully everything will go smoothly putting the wheel on.
Here are pics of the MSII wiring. I had doubt on JS10 to Ign but now the wire is off.
Bottom
Top
For now I will be wiring the coil and VR sensor, gapping the plugs to .035, etc.
Since the other coil is off, where do I put the black wire that was on the + side of the coil I believe it was for the reverse?
Thanks,

You can put the black wire to the right side of r37 or the right side of the other coil driver. Those are both to ground.
You will also need to zero the two potentiometers for direct vr use.

Good day,
I decided to wire the EDIS coil, VR sensor to the relay board but I can't find my saved sites on is topic. I have a friend helping me here with the Internet on and off.
Can someone post a pic of the wiring to the relay board?
Thanks,

The VR+ wire will goto Tach on the relay board. Then the VR- will goto TPSret
the Coil #1 will goto S5 as that is pin 36 on the DB37. The Coil #2 I am not sure of because you used SPR4. I don't think that goes to one of the terminals but an open solder hole (via) on the realy board.

Mario,
I want to thank you for the help you gave me yesterday.
I already wired the ignition circuitry. Just waiting for the VR and the pulley.
Thanks once again.
