Cam Bearings for 2270 Build

I am trying to source a set of double thrust cam bearings for my 2270 build. I was able to find NOS Mains and Rod bearings at the local VW parts shop here in Orlando and what I thought was NOS Cam bearings but they turned out to be for a type 1 (Glycols). The only place I seem to be able to find a set is at the Type4 Store but they are awfully pricey ($115) considering I paid $75 for mains / rods and cam from the local guys. Anyone have any ideas or is this just the current state of affairs with our engines? Also - it seems that the only difference between a single and double thrust set is swapping out the one half shell with one with thrust so you could possibly create your own set with two sets of standard - is that correct?

On my personal engines I quit buying cam bearings type-4 included. Core bearing are fine, if the thrust isn't wiped out and another thrust and be done with it. The only thing I might consider is beating a locking tang into both sides.

Redline is just a suggestion, much like new parts

You can get them at the type 4 store.....and at least you used to be able to get them at Aircooled.net.

Double thrust cam bearing sets are assembled, not made...
two sets of cam bearings is a lot less than $115.
Two sets of Mahle cam bearings typically run about $30.

That little tang isn't what keeps the bearings from spinning in the case...
It simply makes sure the split is aligned with the split in the case, bearing crush prevents rotation.
File the extra tang off.

File a notch into the cam bore, hammer it to fit.

Got another question on the cam bearings for my 2270. I ordered two sets of silverline camp bearings to make up a double thrust set but they sent me the bearings for a type 1. I have another set of type 4 Mahle bearings that work great but would not be double thrust - thoughts on taking the two thrust bearing shells from the silverline sets and using them with the Mahle bearing shells for the rest of the cam? is this OK or a bad idea?

Just order another set of std t4 cam bearings and use the thrust...
No need to add a second "divot" to prevent rotation: they are meant to be compressed and held in place by the case, the protruding bit is only for alignment, and they fit tight enough for that to be a non-issue.

The thrust is mostly what wears.:
