Clutch advice

Post by metzger »

What alternatives are there in the clutch departement? I have a 2 l turbo t4 that should be in the 300-350 region HP and the nm that goes with it. It's not going to be à dragracer but some trackdays and streetfighting kind of car. Have a beefed up transmission with a quafediff. Tires are toyo r888. Do you guys have any suggestions ? Would like a clutch that can handle the power but not "overclutched" IF you know what I meen.

Kennedy dual disc setup is pricey, but will likely hold that with a stock or stg 1 pressure plate.
Carbon/carbon would be ideal but the lighter it is the more it costs.
Otherwise looking at a stage2 or 3 and a heavy iron disc for some initial slip, but that requires regular maintenance.
Do note a 228mm flywheel setup works fine in a 901 trans, kennedy can make you a forged setup.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Hi Pile. Thank's for the answer. Btw do you mean the 228mm flywheel from a t4 camperengine. Will that fit the 901 trans?

Yes, it needs a pilot bearing installed on center, and the hub is probably thinner that the 914 unit, so the bolts need shortened.
In fact, some Vanagon FWs require socket head cap screw bolts.

IIRC Wally had a 914 forged FW turned to become a 228.
His had further mods for dual discs etc, but its doable.
This would be preferred as the others are all cast.

Check his threads for that info, but a lot of the pics were lost to photobuckets shenanigans...
He still visits from time to time probably worth a PM.
Kennedy IIRC can do this for you.
