In Search of an Engine

Post by JmanMulletHunter »

Hello all, I've been recently looking into upgrading my VW Beetle's engine and was wondering where some places to look for a 914 engine might be...I'm on the East Coast of the US and it would be nice to find something relatively close to me...

Yea, I'd like something nice and pretty clean.
Also, what other parts would I need to upgrade? Transmition, clutch? OR would it be best to go with a Type 4 motor convertion?

JmanMulletHunter welcome to Shop Talk Forums!

The 4 cylinder 914 engine shares a LOT of it's design and parts with the 1972 and up VW bus and the VW 411/412 sedan/wagon. You could find the engine in any of the 3 basic vehicles so you have several engine sources to choose from.

If you are interested in putting a type 4 engine into a beetle we have a forum for these and other such conversions, The Type 4um. Come on over and take a look around, there is a lot of info posted worth reading.

Another site worth reading is Tuna's Type 4 secrets revealed.
So you think your project is taking forever eh? Well you've got nothing on me.....
