Hello all,
this conversions has probably been discussed so many times already, but i'm quite new to vw performance. anyways, will a wrx ej20 engine transplant ok into a 1973 beetle? how will the gearbox mate up?? any complications? what factors should i be aware of??

Most of the details will be on my site.
Inner wings will need widening for clearance of the heads and you will probably have to box in the rear bulkhead for turbo and intercooler clearance... Don't forget a very strong transmission!

The single biggest problem is the shear size of the engine. This info should help put a lot of people off the conversion:
high:56cm
wide:82cm
deep:45cm
crack centerline to sump: 28 as compared to 108 in a bug!!!!!
The sump itself is 16cm high this is the problem Image although I have a contact that can do dry sump conversions but your looking at big $$$$

You can get shortened sumps from a variety of sources...

The shortened sumps are for the NA engines. I haven't heard of anybody using one with the turbo engine. Besides, there isn't much to gain as the oil filter and exhaust manifold aren't far off level with the bottom of the sump...

Worth the work tho!
