I'm to the point now where i need to connect the subaru harness to the vw harness. How is this done typically? coming out the back of my ghia there is a large red wire and a smaller blue wire. I can't remember what they are for but i'm guessing they would work
1st question: I understand that i need to keep the iac valve but what am I to do with the two hoses pictured below?
2nd question: the ej22 i got was from a 1997 legacy. the intake manifold has 3 fuel lines. 1 I know is supply (still connected to filter) the other two I'm not sure about though. I know 1 of the remaining 2 is for a return but which? and the last line... maybe for vent?
3rd question: main power and fuel pump relay. how do those get wired in? pictured below on the fuel pump I'm assuming the coiled up section goes to the fuel pump?
4th question: i cannot find a pinout for the obd2 connector in my harness trimdown i ended up with a red wire coming off the obd2 connector and am unsure if it is needed or not.
Thank you for taking the time to read and help me out. I am excited to be getting close to firing this up. this is the 1st major project in the automotive world I've taken on.
thanks,
Steve Hegel

Since they had the voltage regulator for the generator mounted on the firewall (rather than under the back seat like `67-up Beetles), 'Ghias have fewer wires coming into the engine compartment.
The large red & small blue ones are B+ and 61 (warning lamp wire) going up to the dash from the regulator, you should be able to connect those to the Subie alternator. You'll need to provide another heavy wire from the alternator output to the battery, though - or, you can just run it to the battery cable stud on the starter solenoid and let the battery cable take it from there.
You should also see a black wire (Term 15 from the ignition switch) and a small blue/green-striped one that goes to the oil pressure warning lamp.

I hope this helps with the wiring. It's from a 73 bus, but much should stay the same.

Re: Connect subaru harness to vw harness
Great thanks, So if i'm reading correctly the big red wire normally connecting to the voltage regulator... that is where i should connect the alternator excitor and the blue wire goes to the warning lamp. the black wire(terminal 15)... not sure what that goes to i saw you said that it goes to the ignition switch. what was it meant to go to originally? is it power to the coil? can i repurpose it somehow to connect the subaru harness to?
On the subaru harness side.
can i just inject power into the harness at the big red wire going to the main relay / fuel pump relay?

then do the same with the yellow (blue stripe) wire. attached is a pinout of my ecu.

I hope this is ok to link to outside of this site but i am following this sites advice with regards to hooking everything up and he injects the power as i've described

Re: Connect subaru harness to vw harness
The large red wire you are talking about will go to the regulator from the battery and to the main power feed for the car. If you are removing it to support the Subaru Conversion then just connect them togeather and then run the Subaru alternator wire to it to put charge into the system.
Supply the Power to the ECU from the battery direct as the battery will operate like a protector to your system so if you get over charge etc it will help.
The power for the brown relay, fuel pump relay and fan relay get supplied from the battery which sill be the same source as your regulator supply.
I hope that helps
