curios to see you coolant lines. got any more pics?

I need to take some more pics of the car in general now that it is *finished* I see if I can get some of the coolant plumbing.

Got the tune pretty well squared away. Its probably as fast as I expected... or faster. Kinda scary a little bit.

Surprised at the traction. I need to set the toe in and figure out why one of the disc brakes is working much better than the other... but 2 liters of turbo action is fantastic.

Awesome you got it running and driving! How are you triggering the IC fans - MS output? Sounds like the A-A IC is working well on your set-up, even sort of buried in the engine compartment like it is. Does it have any natural airflow?

IC fans are triggered using one of the programmable outputs in MS extra coding. I use the WLED output to trigger when either air temp is above 125C or MAP is above 120kPa. Seems to work pretty well. Must get some air flow. I have the fans blowing down using the natural beetle air flow from top to bottom.

I am actually really happy with how easy the microsquirt was to tune and get dialed in.

Biggest surprise to me was how good of traction a beetle gets with ~200 hp and 165 wide tires. I have barely had them brake loose at all.

Hope you meant 125F there! 125C seems a tad on the high side for IAT!

yeah you got me, I did mean 125 F

I have only seen as high as 110F, unless the car is sitting idling or on a hot start.

yeah sorry guys, I had to put the car in storage for a few weeks. Working on moving locations... and I may decide to paint the car.

some photos of the final product now that I have completed my move to Atlanta. Drove it around a bit yesterday... runs great.

Put some slots in the front apron. Drove it for 30 minutes at 90 F... rock solid at 190 F.

I'm interested in the transaxle re-positioning you did to move the entire drivetrain forward.
I think I read you moved everything forward 2"? Did you have to make any modifications to the chassis or frame horns where the typical front mount goes? What kind of trans mount did end up using? Any pics of the finished set-up up by the "nose" of the trans? Did you have to run longer axles as I guess they're now angling forward from hubs to trans?

I really like your ideas on moving the engine forward to help clear the timing belt covers to bodywork. Much neater solution than hacking away all the rear sheet metal to get it to fit. A bonus is moving the CG a little further forward for improved handling.

Sorry haven't checked here much recently. But the front mount, I cut out and used a weld in mid-mount. Also you have to shorten the shift rod, and clearance some of the fins on the front of the transmission case. All in all it's not too big of a deal and it all fit under the stock body work.

This is info is based on the driver. I have 350+ going through my original 5MT w/ 116K miles and AWD at 3500 lbs. I don't baby it and I don't drag it. Scotty's cocktail is a must with these transmissions and has probably extended it's life. In the 2WD setup with light weight, the Suby 5 is a stout transmission.

I'd still rather have one 5 speed than three 4 speeds. Compare what Todd offers to a Berg 5 which struggles with 200 HP and it's a bargain.
