Suby gearbox and hydraulic clutch setups

Post by Dan Dryden »

So how are you guys running Suby boxes dealing with converting to a hydraulic clutch?
I'm particularly interested in pedal mods, fluid reservoir and master cylinder (or equivalent of a master cylinder) position.

Many thanks.

The Raby bus here has a wilwood clutch master as I recall, andall stock subaru/subagears at the trans end. An extra brake fluid res above for the fluid.

I ran a Wilwood clutch master cyl from Sppedway $49.99 on a 78 bus I did 2 years ago. Didn't run an extra reservoir and adapted it to the stock pedal haven't had any issues.

Does anyone have any pics of this setup in a stock bug? I am trying to keep it looking as stock as possible.

I did something similar in a 914. Stock pedal cluster using a honda civic actuator with a remote fluid reservoir on the other side of the firewall.

Thanks in advance! I am a visual learner so any pics would be helpful!

Cheers!

I am putting mine in the tunnel. The preliminary fit of the SACO hyd master cylinder was fine and ran a hard line through the old clutch cable tube. Keeps the stock clutch pedal cluster and look. I will probably use the original '56 brake reservoir for the clutch and run the dual reservoir that mounts directly on top of the brake MC. Going to run the beefier throw out arm which seems to work fine for HD clutches needed for my power needs.
