vw 1303 ej207 sti powered porsche g50 gearbox. 350 hp

Post by johan84 »

hello

i though maybe some of you liked my swap

5 years ago i started with a 1972 vw beetle

Image

the plan was to build a fast beetle with at least 300hp

Image

Image

Image

intercooler intake both windows are moved 15cm about 6 inch inside in the rear
outlet is under the little wing on the back

youtube:

http://youtu.be/GrFrrbbncL0

http://youtu.be/fae2gHi20fE

http://youtu.be/L1PKfK_BaWE

car spec:

VW 1303 beetle 1972

engine

2002 subaru wrx sti (bugeye model) ej207 sti engine VF35 turbo
engine is stock
ecu: 2002 sti jdm ecu (i used jdm ecu because no need of immoblizer and keys instead of euro models)
ecu is ecutek remapped to 98 oct fuel and runs around 1,5 bar boost
should have at least 325hp+. it is not been on the dyno yet
rev.limit 7800rpm
i can get 120klm (75mph) in second gear ;)

exhaust:
custom made 3" stainless steel with 2 magnaflow 4" mufflers
i'm driving with DB-killers it is now 2 times 2,25"
but it has no influence on the power or spool up of the turbo
but driving without db killers makes it like a rally car sound
there is a youtube link above

gearbox:

porsche 911(964) G50.03 5 speed gearbox incl shifter
that is modified to custom shifting linkage

clutch adapter kit

KEP: adapter kit
sachs stock 911 pressure plate
and high performance 6 puck kep clutch plate
spec can hold up to +/- 850nm

suspension

front: fk-coil overs
944 hubs and brake discs
porsche boxster brembo calipers
custom made steering arms/rods
custom made stabilizer bars(cupstrebe
rear: 944 suspension arms and brake discs
porsche boxster brembo calipers
custom made stabilizer bars(cupstrebe)
red9design uniball system
spax coil overs

wheels/rims: steel rims 16inch rear245/45/16 front215/35/16
pre 65 chrome covers

fenders front fully steel: front widened 2,5cm 1 inch
rear widened 6,5cm 2,5inch

fully roll cage incl doorbars
2 gt3 racing seats
4 point belts
omp steering wheel

2002 sti instrument cluster
boost, oil pressure and oil temp gauges.

and much more

i have to do some little things on the interior
and polish the paint
and i need to make a front splitter
because when doing around 200klm (125mph)
it is getting to search on the road a i need to do little
steering corrections just like in old porsche's
i going to make a splitter in the front to improve this
when it is doing better and i can test it on the autobahn next year
(i'm from holland and live 15klm from the autobahn ;D )

hope you like it

greets

Johan M

johan,
-wow, great first post :D so cool! i dont think you will have to worry about the G50 holding up!!! impressive.
-i see in the vids and pictures that you are running turbo in stock location but where is you intercooler located?
love to see how you are running your cooling lines. i see you must have modified the upper coolant crossover tube, looks much cleaner exiting that way.
-lets see some pics of your radiator set up as well.
-looks low, im sure you did some clearancing of the oil pan, how did you handle that? dry sump? ;)

great work, hope so hear/see more of your project.

thanks ron

intercooler is placed under the rear window and above the and of the gearbox

Image

Image

out let is under the wing to get the airflow the is coming over the car flowing in he same direction as
the air that is coming through the intercooler so the flow over the car is not disturbing the flow out of the intercooler

Image

Image

i have change the cooling pipe on the engine block to have a shorter circuit

Image

radiator is a wrx turbo oem radiator with oem fan's so the switch on and of by ecu signal just like original
from the radiator place i have only very early pic on the construction

Image

oil sump is oem
the lowest point under my car is the exhaust it is about 11cm
sump is 15cm or so

Very cleaver way of directing the air into the IC.
Have u data logged your intake air temps to see how effective it is?

Did u just flip the cross over tube 180deg?

How did u run ur coolant lines?
I like the shrouding for the rad. How r u directing air in and out?

15cm oil pan height w stock pan is frickin awesome!

Lots of unique and clever ideas. Thanks

the cross over tube is in oem position i cut of the pipe and fabricated it on the oder side

coolant lines are under car in 1 on both side of the middle chassis tube
and on come up under the fuel tank and directed to the radiator

intake air for the radiator is through the oem vw oil cooler grille
the are about 2 cm bigger to let a little bit more air in
and the compartment of the spare wheel is gone
the air is flowing underneath the car and in the direction of the openings in the fenders

clearance is not to bad on the oil pan :)

thanks

Got any pics of the Subaru gauge cluster install on the dash? I've always thought that would be a neat touch for a conversion build.

Splitter installed for more downforce

Post by johan84 »

Installed a kamei spoiler and made a splitter underneath
For more stable drive at higher speed
Around 180 the car is getting light in the front
When i get enough downforce
I will do a autobahn run soon
