Subaru transmission and hydraulic release bearing???
I've acquired most of my parts for the transmission swap and modifying the case for the conversion. My particular tranny is a 2010 WRX 5 speed and is a TY758 and the hydraulic slave is located at the top of the transmission. there is a rear cross member that goes over where the bell housing mates to the motor in the 912 and I was going to have to notch it for that slave. i started thinking though, why not use a hydraulic throw-out bearing. I've seen how Britain Smith did his using a Tilton hydraulic release bearing for 901/915/930 transmission but that is a push type clutch. anyone seen if this is possible to convert to push and use a hrb for the suby?

Tilton make them for the Subaru to go with their clutch kits.
However....they are pricey.
Would be awesome if a lower cost solution could be found - very easy to bolt onto the stud that is already in the case.
I started looking at the SAAB ones a while back as they looked to be close in size.

By the way, what you are showing on the 901 is a push-type one and your Subie transmission is also a push type one.
More difficult for a pull type clutch but there are not so many of them around any more - just the older WRX turbos.
Most people seem to be getting a hold of push clutch transmissions.

Check with Wally...IIRC he had a hydraulic TO setup for his shortened 915 with a T4, possibly running various PP combos.
Probably adaptable to a lot of transmissions, for most definitions of "adaptable".
I cannot recall what it came out of, I have slept since then.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

That pic shows a pull clutch transmission style.

Re: Subaru transmission and hydraulic release bearing???
right, as evidenced by the two cyclindrical housings for the clutch fork to the L and R of the hrb. but the hrb is a push type is it not? i believe that is for the tilton kit like this one which is for subaru. it converts to push style pp and clutch. maybe im confused.ttriebler wrote:That pic shows a pull clutch transmission style.

Re: Subaru transmission and hydraulic release bearing???
hmmm indeed. From that picture it would appear that the Tilton kit converts to a hydraulic push clutch that can be mounted in a pull clutch housing.
Nothin' wrong with that!

I went stock everything to keep it simple and notched part of the cross over support.

Thanks Ron. I am in the process of putting the STi into my 79 Beetle with a Subaru Gears transmission. And it's all your fault, but Thank You...
