Got to work on the car a bit today. Gave the Subamount a try and for my car it came up a little short on the upper bolt holes. The lower engine/transmission bolt section of the housing is making contact with the transmission horns. I want to utilize the upper mounting holes so I can run DOHC if want to. The angles were slightly off where the engine mounts hit the banana horns of the Subamount, tightening them will compress the outboard part of the mount and expand the inboard side. Not a very big deal but since I have to work for clearance might as well fix it. I may do what I had to do with the kafer plates. Slice, reposition and weld em up

Contact, mounts not resting on Subamount
Left side engine contact
Left side engine mount deflection
Right side engine contact
Right side engine mount deflection

Going to work on this during the week. Any suggestions before I begin the operation let me know what's on your mind. Thanks gents.

Strange that the angles are off. Looks like you are using the composite liquid filled mounts too.
What are the part numbers on your mounts?

Not really a big deal. Might have to do with mine being an early pan. Have run into a few issues, but putting big motors into early VW's has always been challenging. These mounts do fit better than the Type N's that I used in comparison.

Yes...custom cars always require a little massaging.
You definately have the correct part numbers there.
Fair point about the pan - I developed the angles for the mount using an IRS pan and got everything to line up nicely. Perhaps there is some slight difference with your setup.

Cut enough of the mounting tabs to bend them into position. Surprisingly they needed to be 90 degrees which made it easy. The angle was spot to the bottom plate of the composite mount, but still a bit low to my liking so I temporarily put in some 1/4 shim plate an got the clearance. Now I can order some axles finally.

Hey Todd,
For the guys running the extended Subaflanges what are you guys using to seal off the inward creep of the CV grease and keeping out contaminants from the unused roll pin holes? I figured there is a cap of some kind for the splines and fill the roll pin holes with a dap of sealant. Let me know your thoughts.
