You are welcome, Ed. Yellow red doesn't sound like a speciality wire it sounds like an "ignition on" wire. I may have got that wrong. Glad your running.

I joined this Forum just because of this thread. Thank You very much for taking the time and considerable effort into addressing the issues involved as well as the How To aspect of this engine swap. I am looking at a used Subaru today to purchase. I will start my own thread with tribute to you. Thank you again.

Joined the forum due to reading this post. I am starting a EJ22 conversion from a 93 Liberty into our 69 Kombi. Both the engines are out and adapter kit is on its way. The best reference material i have found on the wiring conversion. Great job and Thanks.

I checked the ECU plugs today and there wire colour is different to what you have. I then downloaded the Subaru wiring, It was alittle different to yours and to mine as well? I pulled the harness out in one piece. I will over the next few days(weeks lol) start checking the wires from my ECU to the sensor plugs and rewrite what you have done. The Australian 92 Liberty wiring must be alittle different to the overseas variant. I will post it up when sorted if you think it might help somebody else. Cheers

I think nilza, a couple pages back, did an Australian conversion and outlined the differences. Yes, this is based on usdm cars. I would happily add an Australian supplement if you'd like to put something together.

Hey everyone, noob here swapping a 95 EJ18 into my 69 standard beetle.
Been doing a lot of research and i must say that this is hands-down the best source i've found so far and what will probably become my saving grace while tackling the wiring portion.

Thank you TimS!

Crimp. They are aluminum, I think, and I couldn't get them to solder.

After many years of using the automatic beetle starter, I just put in a starter from a 2001 jetta tdi. Works great.

Tim,

Did you have to do anything to the holes on the starter to make it fit?

Yes. You can get away with ovaling out one hole, but I modified both holes a bit to keep as much meat on the engine mounting stud. I just used a dremel and a raspy-thingy used to cut tile.
