Hello.
I've got a carbed 2.2 subi motor in a vw bug. The motor has about 300 miles since a rebuild. For some reason, I started getting a lot of lifter noise. I removed the valve covers and found 7 (hydraulic) lifters that were loose.
Why would the valve lash adjusters loosen up? As a note, these lifters were reused from another motor. Motor oil pressure was good.

Did you try removing them and re-pressurizing them ?

I did not try and pump them up again. I was looking for input first before I messed with anything.

The cams look OK? No wear on the lifters?
They only have a certain amount of lash they can adjust for, might want to hit the manual and see if the specs are any help.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Literally maybe an hour job.
I had a couple pump down on me after the motor sat over the winter. Now I'm a pro at it !
Subaru HLA servicing
1. Pull off Valve Covers
2. Remove the Rocker shaft assembly by removing 10 bolts.
3. Bring the whole assembly over to the bench.
4. Pull each one out with pliers carefully.
5. Submerge each one into oil and pump the check ball with an allen wrench. Then push on the top to push the old oil out. Repeat a few times. Let them fill all up with oil before pulling them out from under the oil
6. Insert them back in and push on the top to feel if they were squishy or not.
7. Put it back in and torque each bolt to 8.7ft pounds.
8. Reinstall the valve cover.

But is there a reason they pumped down? Shouldn't they pump back up with oil pressure? Should I install new ones for $75? The reason I asked this is I have to drop the motor to get to the valves on the left side. A bit of a pain.
