Hurst shifter

Post by landrocket »

Hi and thanks in advance. I finally picked up a hurst shifter, I just think they look so cool in a bug. Anyway, it is missing the little bar that locks out reverse. Any ideas where to get one or roughly what the thickness is and I could just make one. Also, any idea what the bar with the spring, that moves up and down with the trigger is supposed to do, ( the "W" spring and half-moon shaped bar). Thanks, I never had one before and I have search the net and was unable to find an explanation.

You should post a pic.
The small bar that the W spring pushes against can be removed and discarded. It's function is to lock out 3rd and 4th so that if you were stuck in snow or mud you could quickly shift from reverse to 1st by holding the trigger up without hitting 3rd and vice versa. Since that kind of shifting will destroy your reverse gear, doing it is dumb.

The little bar for reverse lockout is welded to the bottom plate. Typically the whole plate goes missing, not just the little wall for reverse.
