Why not just buy a new top and have it installed professionally?
There are numerous vendors selling ready to install tops w/ huge variety of materials available off the shelf.
These are usually very good quality and fit, and available in OE type German materials.
Making one from scratch is going to cost ludicrous$$$ and is less likely to fit.//last.
Is it just a show car thing?

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I'm getting everything from Chuck's convertible parts. My frame will be sandblasted and powder coated. The top will be Stayfast material. All the parts are coming from Chuck wood, rubber, aluminum, etc.
I'm looking for someone local to put it all together correctly. I know there are quite a few Seattle/ Tacoma people on Shop Talk hope someone will have a lead other than the ones I have.
If I could; I would have Chuck do the install, but he is 3000 miles away.

How about checking with some of the auto dealers as they have to get them done every so often. Not the fly-by-night dealers but say a VW dealer or someone like them. You also could check at body shops for the same reason.
I've been away from that stuff for too long but when I was going to have a top made for my buggy I talked to places like I said then visited several top shops. You can get an idea pretty quick of who and who not to work with.
Some shops will decline to install the top but might suggest someone else. I ended up going to a marine canvas shop that I had dealt with when I had boats but I don't think what you are doing would be up their alley; mine awas a complete custom top, bows and all fr a manx style of buggy.
I think I would also check with the better business bureau to see if and how many complaints are lodged aginst where you might be dealing with.
For what its worth.
