Love your LCAs. Simple but effective design. I believe I'm becoming inspired :)

So much awesome!! You're living my dream!

If I may ask, what size sway bars are you running front and rear, and what is your spring rate front and rear as well?

H2OSB

P.S. Nevermind about the rear spring rate. Went back through the thread and saw you're using 550# springs on coil overs with uni-ball suspension. Still interested in the other info

Rear is 585lb with uniball setup and 22mm sway bar
Front 66lb main spring, 44lb secondary spring with 22mm sway bar

First step will now be to go firmer in the front. These are the springs as supplied by Kersher which will work well for a road car, but not full race.

I've got 120# linear springs on the front of mine....course I've never put it on a road circuit. I'm running Porsche 944 rear torsion bars.

For sway bars, on the front the equivalent of 22.25mm and 19mm on the rear.

My suspension set up knowledge comes from years autocrossing a front wheel drive car, so dialing in a RWD car will be interesting with a steep learning curve. Did you feel your circuit racer oversteered a bit? Do you have other sway bars sizes you can swap in to dial in neutral handling? Or would you do it with spring rate?

The car was very neutral with the soft springs, turn in excellent, mid corner good, corner exit over steer.
I'm changing the main spring to 200lb and keeping the 44lb secondary spring.

Unfortunately I dont have any other sway bars to try.

Hi 4agedub,

I've been following your build and must say that it looks fantastic!

In watching your videos, correct me if I'm wrong, when the car started to over steer, did you apply the accelerator? Just want to confirm with you, to try and correct an over-steer condition, the best thing to do is to apply the throttle.

The car goes into a severe over steer under acceleration, but this was all due to the inner rear wheel lifting. So there is only one tire on the ground trying to hold 400nm. :)

Normally if you do get a little over steer you simply keep the throttle where it is or add a little hp. Never back off, you'll face the opposite direction very quick.

We took the beetle out to the Michelin cup round 2 at Red Star Raceway. Overall the car feels very good, front springs are still too soft.... but it'll get there.

Managed my fastest unofficial lap time in session 2, 2:16,3. Unfortunately the transponder did not work in that session so did not get classified. :( .

And yes, the beetle can out drag a CLA45AMG. :)

Hi 4ageDub,

What's a little oversteer among friends? I'm sure you'll have that sorted out soon enough. And it sounds like you're getting the power you expected!

You might have seen these already:

Very impressive! I road race and track day motorcycles in So Cal. I sometimes think about building the ghia for this but question the suspension set up. Not like my mustangs I have had in the past. I watched about half of your video and you did an awesome job.

Hi
Im using the same rear parts like Uniball system to enable us to run rear coil over shocks and eliminate the torsion bars. The car will not be used for drag race but for daily use. Im using also thesame porsche 944 trailing arms and brakes.
The engine is 2100cc fuel injected giving about 150hp.
What are the rear coil over shocks I can use as you are using from GAZ with 550lb springs to start off. what would you reccommend please!!!

We have since done a lot of development on the suspension, the rear uniball setup has been changed to MBT after a couple of failures on the old ones. The current spring ratios are; 600lb front and 800lb rear.
