Is 110 psi compression too low?

Post by HPjunkie »

I just did a compression test forthe heck of it on my 2332. I know it has 7.75-8:1 compression ratio, and a bigger turbo grind cam, It just seemed low. The motor was cold. 55 degrees. Is it in range? THey all were real close comparatively.

Did you have the throttle open? How's the cranking speed?

Throttle open, crank is normal. To me it seems ok but I have heard of some people with 120,140,160,180 and from that perspective it seems low. Just looking for general experience.

Kinda low, but it will run. It will be more difficult to tune than a car with higher dynamic compression. 110 is what I had when I was running 6.7 to one and an Engle 100. I had to change out black plugs once in awhile, but that was with Kadrons, which certainly was a contributing factor.

I am kinda of hoping that since the car was sitting for 2 years maybe the rings will free upand with the motor warm it will go up 10 or 20 or so? Do you know how much difference a warm motor makes?

110 cold isn't too bad, I wouldn't worry. how mean is your cam, that drops thecompression when cranking
give a man a watch and he'll allways know what time it is. give him two and he can never be sure again.

Things are rarely just crazy enough to work, but they're frequently just crazy enough to fail hilariously.
