Looking for advice on what to look for when buying a bus

Hello,
I'm currently looking for a pre '67 bus and I think I've found one in my price range. It's a '56 and appears solid, it could use a paint job, but that's not critical at the moment, been converted to 12 volt and I suspect the windshield wipers are non-existant.
I'm told it has a 1641cc engine, the panels appear solid and straight. The interior is okay, but not pristine.
What should I look out for in an old girl like this? I've owned bugs '67 and up, never a bus and never anything this old.

I imagine a straight solid body is a good thing and i'll inspect the floors once I can see it in daylight, but mechnically what is there to watch out for?

Any thoughts on what one should pay for something like this? Dangerous question I know.....

Drive it as much as you can and see what breaks, or at least find out what doesn't seem to be working right. If it can't be driven pay accordingly.
