steps for body of resto and recommedations

Post by Toine »

My bug is solt so I'm having time now to take care of my wifes KG '73 convertible type14.
I'm not good in welding and spraying so I want to keep that to the specialized companies that could do the job.
After stripping the car from the engine, dashboard, electric parts, trim, chrome parts and the cabrio hood etc I want to invite some companies at my home, to make a offer for the restoration. To compare all the offers they should be equal described. So I need to know what I should ask for, which I do not know. I want to do only the restoration of the floor-pan and body by these companies.

So I was thinking of the following steps:

transportation [pick-up and return]

separation of body and floorpan,
bar constructing to avoid bending of the body

Body
removal of all the paint
Weldings

exchanging of the heat channels
sand blasting of new weldings
schooperen [pure sink spraying]
epoxy primer
paint [no water based paint, but what type of paint, polyurethane or epoxy based, amount of layers]??? Color will be Alaska blue metallic

floor-pan
repair / weldings if needed.
removal of paint
sandblasting
schooperen [pure sink spraying]
epoxy primer
black paint [no water based paint]

re-united of the body and floor-pan with new rubber between.
alignment of the front hood, doors, petrol and engine hood.

duration of the restoration and terms of payments

I hope members with the experience could help me in refining/correcting these steps.
sorry for my bad English, hope it is clear to you all.

This sounds like a major restoraion project. I think it would help if we knew where you are located.
