Did European Ghia's have overriders on the bumpers in 1968?

I'm looking at running in a production class of racing and you have to run the car as it was produced. Did 1968 Ghia's ever come without the overriders or overrider bars on the bumper? I've searched old sales literature and it seems they all had them. Thank you.

Hi Wickedwagons!

The US export models were all supposed to have the overrider bar between the front bumper guards. European issue, as you probably know, had just the bumper blade and no guards or overrider.

The 356 Porsche from 1954 on also had bumper overriders as options. They were considered a deluxe accessory.

You'll notice we run bumper guards but no overrider bar on our Ghia. Just a matter of personal preference.

Are going vintage racing?

Even if I had to find some european bumper guards would be better than the whole overrider bars ect. I thought that the european models only had the blades, but I cannot find any proof. I need some sales literature or a sales brochure from 1968 showing it. Can anyone help?

I found this showing just the guards.

Here's a `68 Auto Stick for sale at a dealer in Portugal Jan 2015: http://www.portalacv.com/web1//uploads/ ... 5423-0.jpg

KarmannGhia.com sells rechromed "Euro" ends (without overrider holes) listed as fitting 1956 through 1971. 141 707 113 (L) & 141 707 114 (R)

The guards, if not standard, were apparently an extremely popular option - almost every picture I can find of a Euro-bumpered 'Ghia has them (and all but one without them was a customized car). This one looks pretty stock though: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/23 ... 841ef6.jpg

I checked a 68 price list, in Germany at least, the overriders were an option, I'm betting most of them came with it though.

So it appears that US spec cars had overriders/guards and the tubes/bars, and Euro spec cars just had smaller overrider/guards without the tubes.

Thank you.
