Does anyone know a source for type IV front rotors that are undrilled or drilled for 5 on 130?

Thanks in advance

You might drop these guys a line, according to their Facebook page they've made the jigs for accurate redrilling of the stock rotors.

Are the Beetle/Superbeetle/Type 3 ( VW 1500,VW 1600->´71, VW 1302/1303) brakediscs
compatible with the Type 4 discs ? If they are compatible, you could visit these URL´s:
http:// http://www.kerscher-tuning.de
or : http://www.csp-shop.de
both offer Type 1 brakediscs , normal and vented(for their tuning brakesystems) in various
PCD´s(whatever PCD means) and as blanks.
hope that can help
Best regards.

H2OSB has another thread going which asks that very question, and we're still waiting for a definitive answer from someone who has a late Type III/Type IV rotor sitting around that they can measure the backspace of. The 411 rotor does have a different offset, but nobody knows how different (I think it's 1 or 2 mm) which might not be a problem with the calipers he's planning to use, but he wants the increased thermal mass of the thicker rotor because he'll be getting the brakes quite hot (gymkhana racing).

Early or late brakes? I believe that the late brakes are only shared with the corresponding years of 914?

Unfortunately, I've decided to go with the lesser of many evils. I will be installing n/a 944 brakes on my 1303.

The late (late`71 through `73) Type III rotors are the same as were used on pre`73 Type IV (411 407 075 - also used on `70/`71 914 and some `72, through VIN 4722919032) - the `73-up Type IV are 411 407 075B, also used on the later`72 and `73-`76 914.
What's the difference between the 075 and the 075B? As stated in the other thread, I believe it's only that the former are lugcentric (no centering ring) and the latter are hubcentric (with centering ring). viewtopic.php?f=51&t=144927

You can use these but you need to use these with 411 caliper brackets because the caliper need some offset:

Sadly my front brake idea was a case of ALMOST here and ALMOST there. What I was trying to do was install EARLY Porsche 924 front brakes on my '74 1303. Early because Porsche used a 15mm ball joint on the early 924 with solid front brake rotors, and therefore would bolt directly to the control arm on my 1303.

It has been stated several times 924 brakes would be a waste of time because that's what a Euro spec 1303(S) has anyway, however, I disagree with this. The 924 has a caliper with a 48mm piston and the rotor is 13mm thick. So, big caliper (relative to a Varga caliper), and pretty decent thermal capacity with that thick rotor.

I had also read, and personally confirmed the bearing size and spacing is the same as a typical KG rotor (and therefore the 1303S rotor). Originally, my thinking was to simply replace the 924 rotor with a KG rotor and I'd be good to go. Then I got worried the KG rotor would be too thin, so I started looking at VW 412/late Porsche 914 rotors (thank you Marc for the good direction there ^^). It appears the bearing size and spacing is the same here as well, but I never confirmed, nor needed to. I ran into the biggest snag with the whole idea after I got to looking at the 914 rotors....the diameter is WAY different on 914 rotors vs. 924 rotors.

The KG, 411/412, and 914 ALL use approximately 281mm rotors (give or take a mm or two), where the 924 uses a 257mm rotor. It's comes to just under an inch in difference, meaning, I would need to move the caliper out by half an inch.

So, scrap the 412/914 rotor idea (Since I'm going for a German Look scheme, I was hoping for an easy change to 5 on 130 pcd). So, I think, WELL, I'll just re-drill original rotors to 5 on 130 and be done with it. Nope, not so fast. The 924 has a 4 on 108 pcd. This cannot be drilled to 5 on 130 as it would interfere with TWO holes. My only way around this was to re-drill to *5* on 108 then purchase and use a 5 on 108 to 5 on 130 adapter.

Every avenue added up to more and more money and I would always question the safety on a "one off" parts. Also, I had been hoping for a brake set up I could easily get replacement parts for. After looking again at the 944 set up and realizing the car those brakes came on originally had 160hp, I got to thinking they wouldn't be such overkill for the 149hp I plan to eventually have.
