Wally, you would come to drive in France in 2009?
i don't know a date and a race track at this moment, but i think:

Alés (South, Est) june or july.
Charade (center France) April or May.
Maybe Dijon-Prenois (220kms in long fisrt line with ex-kafer cup)

I think writing dates from the beginning of February 2009

Cutting and cutting...and tomorrow welding.

I also found that the fender edges in Jaguar XJ are guite similar to 412! Do you know some other car which has nearly same kind of fender edges?

Now I got this project on the wheels again. The axle is raised about 10 cm.
Next thing is to shorten the springs and make new mountings for the rear struts.

Today we went to garage with my teammate. I told him I was tired of welding and cutting all weekend. "Let´s see what easy jobs we could do today".

We had a moment to think of new innovations. One idea crossed to our minds and we couldn´t help it...

Ingenious Jani!!! That should make engine access a little easier in the pits!

You are putting an incredible amount of work into your 412, I can't wait to see the finished result!

A week ago we got the rear springs modified and some welding finished.
Because we had no engine installed we had to demonstrate the height of the car by adding some temporary weight inside :)

Very cool modifications Jani! Love the rear hatch idea and the other pics too! Using a roll-bar for extra structural strength is much neede in a type 4, so good idea to have a cage welded in. You are really going all the way with the 412. Unprecedented I think. Respect bro!

Jeremy: sorry, but only just saw your post of 18 december
I don't just yet want to race my 412 as its my daily driver and would not have a drive home if it broke in France at a racetrack, let alone transport to the office at home the next monday..
Thanks very much for the offer though :D

Thanks Wally. I'll continue open minded.

Here are the rear struts and the new mountings.

EDIT: As you can see the springs are about 10 cm shorter than the original ones. A hole is made through the spring cup to raise the upper mountings of the rear struts. That means shorter movement and the stiffer rear suspension. The springs are modified rear springs from the Volvo V70 vagon.

This kind of front bumper would be nice. Is this a 911 Porsche bumber?

Its a bumper and front spoiler of a 3,0/3,2 Carrera if I am not mistaken
I agree, it does look fabulous! Wonder how much work would be involved?
The biggest benefit would be that it reduced lift on the front wheels quite considerably (my educated guess anyways).

Thanks for posting that car again. It has been a while since I saw pictures of it (squareback with widenend wheel arches at the back, right?)

Here is a link to a project tread about this car, I'm sorry it's in norwegian!

http://www.vwnorge.no/index.php/topic,4961.0.html

It's got a 3.0l Porsche engine with highcomp pistons and some more funstuff, Porsche 930 gearbox. He's gonna build a biturbo of this. Front struts from 1303, modified hub for the Porsche brakes (taken from same car as engine). Wider body for 10" wheels in the back and 9" in front. 911 fenders and sdeskirts. VW Passat DE Black Design headlights, leather/electric Saab 9-5 front seats, 911 dash. Owner also has another 412 wagon with Porsche engine on norwegian plates.

Very cool to see those 4 pictures on the first page of the norge forum. The picture above is however not one of those...so...where are the other pictures of that car?
