Best place to Re-mount coil in VW Beetle?

Post by Jim Ed »

I need to re-mount my ignition coil to make room for my fuel pressure regulator.
I was thinking of behind the back seat.
I will need a longer coil wire.
Can anyone recommend one?
TIA!

While anything can be done, I would recommend keeping the high tension wire as short as possible for several reasons. They have a tendency to fail on their own even when short (no pun intended) to start with then there is both the potential voltage drop problem over long distance as well as some other potential problems.

My opinion is worth slightly less than what you paid for it.

The furthest from the distributor I would go is to the firewall (up high, directly above where it is now). It's a two-man job to drill the holes through while holding the carpet away, and then the "inside" guy needs to poke bolts w/fender washers through the holes while the guy in the engine compartment mounts the coil and tightens the nuts down.
But by the same token, wouldn't it be simpler to mount the regulator there instead and keep the coil location & high-tension lead stock?
