What is the best gear oil to use in my '73 Beetle's Tranny?

I haven't used the Amsoil personally but it's gotten good reviews from those who have. What are your local temperature extremes?

Note that Redline no longer recommends their MT-90 for our transmissions.

What are your local temperature extremes?
Anywhere from about 10 degrees F before wind chill in cold weather up to 120 degrees F in hot weather.

I suspected as much. Makes the cost of synthetic gear lube easier to justify for you than for someone in a more temperate climate.
