I am re-wiring my 72 Type 1 and need a color diagram. Anyone got one?

No, the `73-up "current-track" diagrams are a nightmare for a layman to follow. The semi-pictorial diagrams used through 1972 were far easier to read for most folks (in fact, I recommend to people with `73-up cars that they use a `72 diagram to get the "lay of the land" to help interpret the current-track version, since they're >90% the same).

These are taken from an older publication of the Robert Bentley manual - the most-recent releases have only black & white diagrams, which makes them much harder to use.

Note all of the components which are NOT included in the Watson kits, that's just the beginning of the cost.
While modern ATO/ATC fusepanels are nicer than the archaic stuff that's stock in a VW, the overall design of the VW electrical system is pretty sweet & simple and I wouldn't toss it in favor of the GM-based Streetworks kit. There's a lot you can do yourself if you have the know-how, keeping the best of the original setup while adding desirable upgrades (most notably to the headlamp circuit if you want to run higher-output lights). My son's done a couple of custom layouts that are head & shoulders better than the Watson approach, I'll have to see if I can goad him into sharing some of his design elements. I know that he favors the "Blue Sea" marine panels (available fairly cheaply on eBay).

No, the Watson kit is based upon GM designs of 30-odd years ago; it may or may not be compatible with VW switches, etc. - most notable is the ignition switch.
By 1972, VW pretty much had their act together in the electrical department. Headlamps that turned off with the ignition, steering-column-mounted wiper switch (with a park circuit that's compatible with later waterpumper VWs, so you can add interval wipers with relative ease).
I'd spend a little time seeing if I could get the stock wiring whipped into shape before taking the plunge to bastardize it.
