So, I'm really new to this...
It's just the cylinders, stroke, piston size, etc. that make the difference between a 1800 and 2275, right? Not the case?

The case is also modified for bore and stroke. So if you want to run a big bore you must machine the case holes for the larger cylinder. Similar if you want to run a large stroke, the inside must be clearanced (normally for the rods).
But there is no issues with a stroked case and a non-stroked crank.
It is harder (but not impossible) to run a stock bore in a modified case.

Wow, thanks! I'm glad I asked, the engines I'm used to dealing with change their bore with the change of the liners. I'll be starting with the case then.
