Hello,
So I am REALLY interested in building a drag bug. I in the information gathering stages at the moment. I have a questions regard what style/year bug to start with that has the greatest ability to be customized and has the highest abundance of performance parts supplied for it. My current assumption is that most bugs are one size fits all for this.
Also, I am weighing what to do about power and engines. Which engine size will give me the greatest amount of playability as far as accessory options and power? I've heard about certain Porsche engines being swappable. Are there liquid cooled engines designed for this purpose (i understand that this is sacrilege, but I'm just weighing options.)? And are there a lot of transmission options, is there such a things as an automatic or short shifting transmission for bugs? Do all of the engines only have carburetor possibilities, or can I find injector kits?
I realize my questions are highly novice, but I might as well ask them and save my self a lot of time scouring website for the information.
Newbie to the bug, dreams of drag...

Now as far as what bug to use to build a drag car out of, well that comes down to personal preferences. I like the link pin front end and the IRS rear end. The swing axle is OK but you have to live with the camber changes, and the ball joint front end is OK also. Even a Super Beetle can make a great drag bug. The possibilities are almost endless when it comes to engine and transmission choices.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.
