The above is copied from the www.ahnendorp.com site...I would have thought you would have the catalog at home , but its online now as well, unfortunately for our english speaking friends, not everthing has been translated.
The picture of those bolts didn't copy with the text, but ist on page 5 of Typ 4 section on the german online catalog.
Best regards,
Walter

Sure, no problem; any help/ideas I can give you to make a reliable Type 4 Turbo is well worth the small effort it is to me

No, certainly not; It says - and I can confirm this (I have used several sets already) - that you 'may' have to hone the flywheel for the tight fitting 'neck' of the bolt, which is exactly 13,1mm. Your flywheel holes are 'about' 13mm, to fit the normal M12 bolts.jonas n wrote:do i understand right if i have to drill the flywheelholes together with the crankshaft?
Crankshaft threads have nothing to do in this case with the 5 bolts fitting tight in the flywheel. Threads in crankshaft remain the same.
From experience, I can advise you to have the holes be reamed by BAS to the 13,10 mm as this is usually necessary, not to 'gall' the machined neck of the bolts.
This is easy for me, as I live about a 20-30 minute drive from Ahnendorp and I can wait for the work to be done while I am there, especially when I call them first..., but sending your flywheel by mail is probably not very cost effective, so maybe you can/will have this work to be done locally. I am not sure it BAS uses a special fixture for this, but alignment with the crank-threads is crucial of course.
Good luck,
Walter

IIRC Jake sells those bolts on this side of the Atlantic.
(Or something very similar)
And that motor mount is a work of art!
In steel you should be able to use it as a jack point!

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Think 13.1mm diameter dowel pins, but made of pure unobtainium, and screwed in at 100 ft/lbs.HotStreetVw wrote:whats the purpose of increasing the size inside the flywheel? I dont see how that would solve a problem, the bolt is still going to shear on the small cross section, or the transition between small to large(stress concentration)

No, actual unobtanium (no joke) is the stuff 'we' made my exhaust guides from , but yes, I forgot to tell that those higer quality bolts are torqued with a higher torque value. The exact numer is in the BAS instructions paper that comes with a set.
