2 liter Ford piston update

Post by IMPI »

Hi I posted a while back about Pinto /Cortina?Sierra pistons
We now have 2 cars running the pistons and so far have found them very satisfactory. There is quite a bit of modification needed to fit them
The pins must be shortened and wrist pin keeper grooves machined in.
as the skirts are slightly wider some clearancing is neccesary with a die grinder (a mill would be better) The amazing part is that the code on the inside of the Kolbenschmidt piston matches that of the VW piston I think they are made from the same alloy. The PN we used was Kolbenschmidt 233109026 or RP4008@ 91.33mm

North American "Pinto" motors came with two different bores.

3.52"(89.4mm) in the 2.0 motor,
and 3.78"(96mm) in the 2.3 and 2.5

The stroke is different between the 2.3(3.126") and 2.5(3.401")
The rod lengths are also different.

The compression heights on the pistons are
2.3 = 1. 583" (40.2mm)
2.5 =.1.2105" (30.74mm)

Found these recently for a forged 1700 or 1800cc build. Looks like they would just drop right in (1700 jugs would need boring)...?
Weisco KE221M93 (93mm) or KE221M92 (92mm)
Comp Height: 41.9mm
Pin Dia: 24mm
Flat top (8.3 static comp w/ 55cc 1800cc heads) Perfect for my turbo build!?

The deck height is almost perfect at 0.9mm (0.035") in the hole...

Use 1.8 jugs with the Weisco KE221M93 or order custom from Ross for about the same price in 96mm, depending on application.
I suspect the 1.7 jugs are iffy at 92mm, and you would require 1.7 heads, smaller register at head.(100mm for 1.7, 1.9-2.0 are 105mm)
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
